Which Barrier should I choose?
Choose the barrier that best describes the main reason the treatment isn’t going ahead right now.
Cost: financial concerns are preventing or delaying treatment.
Time: scheduling or time commitments are preventing or delaying treatment.
Fear: anxiety or concern about treatment is preventing or delaying treatment.
No Urgency: the patient doesn’t currently feel treatment is necessary or urgent.
Considering: the patient is still deciding whether to proceed.
Declined: the patient has decided not to proceed with the treatment at this time.
Good to know
- If there’s more than one concern, choose the one that best represents the main reason the treatment is currently prevented or delayed.
- Barriers describe the patient’s current reason for not proceeding. They aren’t clinical diagnoses. The dentist determines clinical need and recommends treatment; the patient decides whether to proceed.
